Whitney Mwangi (She/Her)

Global Health Communicator. Mental Wellness Educator. Youth Advocate.

About Me

Whitney Mwangi is a global health communications specialist, mental health advocate, and social entrepreneur whose work bridges storytelling, policy, and psychology. Born and raised in Nairobi, her professional journey spans diverse contexts, from the Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps to diplomatic hubs such as Addis Ababa and Geneva, shaping a grounded, systems-aware approach to health and youth wellbeing.

Over the past decade, Whitney has led advocacy, communications, and stakeholder engagement across Africa, with a focus on HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, health financing, and youth wellbeing. She has worked within multilateral and continental institutions, including the African Union system and currently with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), supporting global partnerships across health, climate action, humanitarian response, and peace and security. Her work centres on translating complex policy priorities into accessible narratives, strengthening coordination among diverse actors, and elevating youth-centred perspectives within development agendas.

Beyond institutional roles, Whitney is the founder of the Story Book Africa, a creative social enterprise established in 2018 to support young Africans in their healing, growth, and development. Her growing interest in the psychological dimensions of health and development led her to pursue doctoral training in Clinical and Health Psychology, with a focus on applied developmental psychology and youth mental wellbeing in African contexts. She holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Global Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and remains committed to integrating evidence, empathy, and systems-level thinking to support young people not only to survive adversity, but to heal, develop, and thrive.
